What is a backlink
Everyone talks of backlinks without the long time nothing works in the Google rankings. But what is important in backlinks and while link building? By Markus Hövener.
A backlink is an incoming link, ie a link from a site A to site B. Before Google came on the scene as a search engine, backlinks were not such a relevant topic.
Meanwhile backlinks but important for search engine rankings. Google (and other search engines like Yahoo! and Bing) rated website strongly on how many backlinks does this. Has a website no or very few backlinks, it is also able to reach any relevant search engine rankings.

Anatomy of backlinks
A backlink is first primarily first of two parts: The URL and Anchor Text (also anchor text or link text). In the HTML code that looks like this:

Link has a twofold function:
The link as such ensures that the so-called link popularity of the linked website (ie www.ebay.de) rises. The link popularity is simply a measure of the number of links.
But search engines like Google also analyze the anchor text. If there is an anchor text such as "Auctions" is as in the example, helps to achieve better rankings for the search terms in the anchor text. So if you backlinks with the word "sale" has, is considered by search engines for that word as relevant.

Here you can unfortunately hardly rely on help from search engines because it is not immediately visible from the outside, whether search engines classify as a link quality or inferior. The following criteria are therefore more likely to be understood as paradigms.
Thematic nearby
A criterion for the quality of a link can be the thematic proximity. When a site linked around property to a real estate broker, you can see a thematic proximity between these two links. In the concrete example words like "real estate" or "house" would appear on both sides, so that a search engine could draw the conclusion that the link has a thematic proximity.
Conversely, if a private home page linked to said real estate agent (as well as a hundred other thematically mixed sites), the thematic proximity would no longer be recognized and the link - at least in theory - worth less.
Thematic Relevance

Who would not want this discussion to ask yourself should assume that only dofollow links (ie links that do not nofollow links) count for search engines.
